Out and about in Avelengo near Merano
The picturesque village of Avelengo, situated on the Monzoccolo high plateau is not only the home of the famous Haflinger horses, it’s also a popular holiday destination, particularly for families!
The tiny village has just 700 inhabitants and is just 10km away from the Mediterranean spa town of Merano.
Avelengo offers a range of activities, both in summer and winter… rambles, hikes or challenging summit tours for as far as your feet will carry you; bike tours or trips up the Terrarossa to discover the local area. Marvel at the stunning views of the Gruppo Tessa, the Brenta Dolomites, the Ortles-Cevedale mountains, the Dolomites and, even, the Ötztal Alps in Austria.

Things to see and do in and around Avelengo
There are many things to see and do in the area surrounding our Hotel Falzeben in Avelengo. The loveliest is without doubt the spa town of Merano. The Trauttmansdorff castle gardens, the thermal baths, the various weekly markets and, in December, the Christmas markets are well worth a visit.
Not that far from the Hotel Falzeben is one of Merano’s best-loved tourist destinations – Trauttmansdorff Castle and its stunning gardens.
A popular destination during an activity or hiking holiday is the Knottnkino in Verano, where you can sit in one of thirty cinema-style chairs (indeed, Kino means cinema) and marvel at the magnificent mountain panorama unfolding below you.
